‘M+ Sigg Collection: Another Story’ takes a visual approach to examine the styles and practices of contemporary Chinese art from the 1990s to the present. The exhibition surveys how artists reconsider their cultural identities and express their uncertain state of being during China’s rapid modernisation in the 1990s. It brings together a multitude of works that exhibit qualities of overflowing visuals, ambiguous meanings, obsessions with transiency, and traditional interpretation. It offers a different perspective on understanding contemporary Chinese art and foregrounds its unique visual language through the lens of artists who strive for self-presence.

Adorned with vibrant colours, Temple Street has been revitalised, showcasing its lively and captivating night vibes. Visitors can expect to encounter authentic decorations that serve as must-visit photo spots. The roadside food stalls also offer an endless array of delectable Hong Kong snacks and diverse specialty products, ensuring a satisfying experience that pleases both your taste buds and leaves you fulfilled. The Hong Kong Museum of Art has received a generous donation of 123 sets of precious artworks from the family of Hong Kong calligraphist Jat See-yeu (1935–2009). Eighty-five sets of the newly donated artworks are on display at the exhibition, which invite audiences to explore Jat’s world of calligraphy and experience his bold and pioneering ideas. Visitors can also join the virtual tour, aided by an online map, to explore Jat’s calligraphy rooted in communities in Cheung Chau and other places in Hong Kong. Whether visiting these locations in person or navigating them from the comfort of their homes, visitors can get a sense of the deep bond between Jat, Cheung Chau and Hong Kong, as well as the rich Chinese cultural vitality within our city.

The Speciale Venu International Music Competition is a US-based international classical music competition open to all instruments, with no age or professional restrictions. There is only one video screening of free compositions. Winners will be nominated to perform in a concert at the beautiful Memorial Church of Harvard University in the United States.

Video judging will be given for performances on all instruments including piano, strings, voice, woodwinds, brass, ancient instruments, and classical guitar. Categories are solo, duo, and chamber music. Applications in more than one category are accepted.

Early deadline for video judging is May 31; final deadline is July 31.
Winners' concert will be held on October 13th (Sun.) at Memorial Church on the Harvard University campus

Kung fu and martial arts films, as well as their associated industries, have always been integral to Hong Kong’s pop culture. This year holds special significance as it marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the legendary writer Jin Yong and the 20th anniversary of the passing of James Wong. To honour these influential figures, the Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival 2024 has adopted the theme of ‘Arts & Action’, offering a journey through time to explore Hong Kong’s pop culture from new perspectives. The diverse programmes will feature thematic exhibitions, film screenings, stage performances and engaging outreach activities.

Yuanming yuan (Garden of Perfect Brightness) served as the principal residence of five emperors during the Qing dynasty (1644–1911). This exhibition sheds new light on the once-magnificent Qing dynasty imperial garden-palace with over 190 spectacular paintings, architectural models, and other relevant artefacts and artworks.

One of the largest and most competitive international lacrosse tournaments, the 2024 World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship will be held in August. This year marks the seventh edition of the event and it’s the first time that the tournament is held in Asia. Top teams from around the globe will be competing for the championship.

2024 marks the centenary of the birth of Jin Yong (Dr Louis Cha), a literary giant in Chinese literature. ‘A Path to Glory — Jin Yong’s Centennial Memorial’ is a memorial event that encompasses culture, art, creativity, heritage and education, paying tribute to the master of martial arts fiction. The event consists of ‘The World of Wuxia’ exhibition at Edinburgh Place, Central, and the ‘Sculpted by Ren Zhe’ exhibition at Hong Kong Heritage Museum.
